Letter from Executive Director Lui Franciosi - July 2024

July 8, 2024

Dear Residents and Families of Dania,

I hope you are all having a good summer. I want to relay some updates from our campus of care.

Over the last month, our residents at Dania Home and Dania Manor have continued to be COVID-free. We do ask that visitors continue to check regularly our COVID status on our website at https://www.dania.bc.ca/covid-19-status-updates

We also had the Insurance Corporation of BC (ICBC) come to Dania Home on June 18 to trial their new mobile driver licensing services. They delivered a full range of driver licensing services available at a traditional office to many of our campus residents. These services included commonly requested transactions such as BC Services Card and BC Identification (ID) Card renewals. Again, we thank Dania’s Family Council Chair Craig McCulloch and his Members who made this possible for our residents but potentially all other residents who live in long term care and assisted living in the Province.

We also had a fun ‘Ping-Pong for Good’ tournament on July 2 where Dania Home and Dania Manor residents competed with other long term care and assisted living residents within Burnaby, New Westminster and Vancouver areas. Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley, New Westminster Councilor Daniel Fontaine and MP Peter Julian came to cheer on all residents that day. The winner of the competition was Normanna Care Home of Burnaby. We thank all who attended, including the staff who set up the event and supported residents from all sites. We were fortunate to get media coverage on Global News (90-plus and serving up spirit: Ping pong tournament unites B.C. care homes | Globalnews.ca), CityNews Vancouver (Seniors compete in ping pong championship (citynews.ca), and CTV News (Seniors show off skills in ping pong tournament (ctvnews.ca).

As the weather warms this summer, Dania has a heat response plan in place for all residents to address prolonged heat events such as the one happening this week. We will continue to follow Fraser Health guidelines as well as monitor Environment Canada’s Special Weather Statements for the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver.

Lastly, the Family Council and I would like to also welcome you to attend this month’s Family Council meeting, scheduled for Monday, July 15, 2024 at 6:30pm. For those that are unable to attend in person, we also have a virtual method available. Here are the ZOOM meeting details used for every meeting:
