Letter from Executive Director Lui Franciosi - February 2025

Dear Residents and Families of Dania,

I want to provide you with an update on events of the past month on the Dania campus.

We continue to observe minimal cases of residents and staff with respiratory related illnesses.  Families and staff have been superb in containing the spread as much as possible through enhanced infection control and prevention methods like mask wearing in all resident areas, especially at Dania Home. 

We also celebrated the Chinese Lunar New Year early this month with a social event, traditional food and a lovely Lion Dance Performance.  We again received multiple compliments about these gatherings and the food from residents and families.  A special thanks to Recreation Coordinator Algene Fructoso and Support Services Manager Kim Vo along with their staff for making this time of year memorable.  Gong hei fat choy! Gong xi fa cai! Wishing all of you great happiness & prosperity (in Cantonese and Mandarin, respectively!)

Also, Dania Home Society received a special donation from a family member Gert Johansen:  a bronze statue of Edvard Eriksen’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ / Den lille Havfrue.  We are grateful for this lovely Danish artwork and we have securely placed it near the fountain in the south courtyard of Dania Home for residents and families to enjoy. 

Lastly, we invite all families to visit Dania and enjoy this Family Day long weekend with their loved ones.  Family Council Chair Craig McCulloch and I would like to welcome all current and new family members to attend our monthly meetings where we discuss important topics that concern BC’s healthcare system and the impact it has on our residents, families and staff.  Our next meeting is Monday, February 17, 2025 at 6:30pm.  For those that are unable to attend in-person, we also have a virtual method available.  Here are the ZOOM meeting details used for this specific meeting:
