Letter from Dania Executive Director Lui Franciosi — February 2022

Dear Residents and Families of Dania,

I would like to provide you with new updates from our campus of care.

I am pleased to say that over the last two weeks we have not had any new cases of COVID-19 amongst our resident populations at Dania Home and Dania Manor.  Dania Home continues to have two neighborhoods following Enhanced Monitoring protocols.  We did have a staff member at Dania Manor test positive on January 31, which required the site to follow the same monitoring protocols until yesterday.  Our Leadership Team and Staff continue to do their best in following the expected practices and the advice of Fraser Health and BC Centre of Disease Control in containing and preventing any further transmission.

As you may already know, the Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced on Monday, January 17, 2022 that social visits were able to resume at long-term care sites, but with only one designated family member.  Currently at Dania Home, the social visits no longer need to be scheduled, there is no time limit, and the family member can visit their loved one in their room.  We ask that visitors keep following all of the requirements as normal, i.e., screening, PPE wearing, handwashing and social distancing.  We anticipate that these measures will be lifted soon, enabling all family members to enjoy time with their loved one.  While we wait for this announcement, we thank you for your understanding and patience.  Dania Manor’s social visitation program continues as normal.

Lastly, I would like to invite you to attend our next family council meeting on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 6pm at Dania Home as well as virtually for those unable to attend in person.  In terms of a preliminary agenda, we will aim to discuss the COVID related events since our last meeting, present the 2021 Family Satisfaction Survey results, and review the potential action plans to improve our practices for all residents and families.  A final agenda with be forthcoming as we get closer to the date.  In addition, refreshments will be available to all of you that evening. We encourage you to continue monitoring our COVID-19 status at www.dania.bc.ca for any new updates.  By the way, we are in process of developing new websites for Dania as well as Family Council. We look forward to launching them this Spring and hearing your feedback.
