Dania Home Society and Dania Society Extend Their Warmest Congratulations to Their Majesties King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark

On January 14, 2024, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen proclaimed Frederik X as King after his mother Queen Margrethe II formally signed her abdication, with massive crowds turning out to rejoice in the throne passing from a beloved monarch to her popular son. Queen Margrethe is the first Danish monarch to relinquish the throne in nearly 900 years.  Denmark’s monarchy goes back to the 10th-century Viking King Gorm the Old, making it the oldest in Europe and one of the oldest in the world.

Dania Home Society and Dania Society wish King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark all the best in their new roles.  We are hopeful that this new era for the Danish nation will be filled with great happiness and prosperity.

The Societies would like to also honour Queen Margrethe for her unconditional and remarkable commitment to Denmark.  For 52 years, as Sovereign, she put the interests of the Danish nation first. Her way of exercising the royal function and her dedication will remain an example to us all.  We were fortunate to have her visit the Dania Campus on October 16, 1991 where she unveiled a commemorative plaque for the dedication of Carl Mortensen Manor.
