COVID Update from Dania Executive Director Lui Franciosi — September 2023

September 29, 2023

Dear Residents and Families of Dania,

Over the last few days, we have had four residents at Dania Home test positive for COVID-19 while Dania Manor has had one resident case.   We also had a staff member at Dania Home test positive in this timeframe.

Due to the rise in positive cases, we have taken a conservative stance and immediately implemented the practice of medical mask wearing for all staff and visitors IN ALL AREAS at each site to slow the spread.  This is earlier than expected.

As you may have heard, the Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced yesterday that they will be reinstating enhanced infection prevention and control measures ahead of respiratory illness season.

Effective October 3, 2023, mask wearing will be required by all health-care workers, volunteers, contractors, and visitors in patient care areas of health-care facilities, which includes long-term care and assisted living residences.  Visitors will be required to wear a medical mask when they are in common areas of the home and when participating in indoor events, gatherings, activities in communal areas of the care home or residence.  At Dania Home and Dania Manor, all visitors must continue to wear their mask in resident rooms to slow the spread.  Screeners will also be reinstated, specifically to support screening for symptoms of respiratory illnesses, hand out medical masks, and to ensure people clean their hands before entering.

We like to thank you for your patience and understanding as well as encourage you to monitor our COVID-19 status at www.dania.bc.ca for any new updates.

If you have any specific questions, please contact me anytime. I am always available to you by either phone or email.  Thank you and stay safe.

Sincerely,

Lui Franciosi
