As early as 1938 the thought of a retirement home for senior citizens, similar to the ones in Denmark, was brought forward, and in 1940 a sick, lonely old gentleman on a visit to Vancouver from Ponoka, Alberta, expressed his wish that there should be a place for old Danes, like himself, to find comfort. The dream became a reality when in February, 1941, a committee was elected at the Danish Church Annual Meeting. The official opening of the Home, was on July 23, 1944.
In 1947, the new West Wing was built.
The official opening of the extension of the West Wing and the duplex was held on March 3, 1957
The new Dania Home, located at 4175 Norland Avenue in Burnaby is now open! Please call (604) 299-2414 to arrange a tour of this state of the art facility.
